An 85-year-old man is accused of stabbing his 81-year-old wife to death in a dispute over pancakes that tragically turned physical.

Sunday afternoon, police in Washington, D.C., were called to their home.

“Upon arrival, officers located a woman inside of an apartment with injuries,” Metropolitan Police said. “A man was also located in the residence with self-inflicted injuries. Both were transported to local hospitals for treatment, where the woman died.”

She was identified as Sharron Hilda Schwartz.

Her husband, Steven Schwartz, was charged with second-degree murder while armed.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, “Defendant did not want to eat the pancakes she made and stabbed her in the back.”

Steven Schwartz pleaded not guilty and is being held without bond.
