ORIGIN
Andre De Grasse is a Canadian sprinter and Olympic silver medalist. He was born on November 10, 1994, in Scarborough, Ontario. His mother ‘Beverly’ is originally from Trinidad and Tobago, and his father ‘Alex’ from Barbados. He has three siblings, Alexandra, Dantee, and Julian. De Grasse grew up in Markham, Ontario, where he attended Milliken Mills High School. He continued his education at Coffeyville Community College followed by the University of Southern California. He’s pursuing a degree in sociology.

CAREER
De Grasse began his track and field career during his junior year of high school. He was recruited by coach Tony Sharpe who saw his potential at a high school meet. De Grasse was offered a scholarship to Coffeyville Community College. He spent two seasons with the Red Ravens and won five NJCAA titles. De Grasse competed and won silver at the 2013 Pan American Junior Championships in Colombia.

De Grasse transferred to USC in fall 2015. He won bronze for the 100-meter and the 4×100-meter relay at the 2015 IAAF World Championships in Beijing. He also won gold medals for the 100-meter and the 200-meter dash at the 2015 Pan American Games. De Grasse made his Olympic debut at the 2016 Summer Olympic games in Rio. He won bronze for the 100-meter sprint behind Jamaica’s Usain Bolt and USA’s Justin Gatlin. He won silver for the 200-meter and bronze for the 4×100-meter. De Grasse has improved his 100-meter from 10.25 seconds in 2013 to 9.91 seconds in 2016. He’s also improved his 200-meter best from 20.72 seconds in 2013 to 19.80 in 2016.
