Alessia Cara is a Canadian R&B singer and songwriter. She’s known for such songs as “Here”, “Wild Things” and “Scars to Your Beautiful”. Cara was born Alessia Caracciolo on July 11, 1996, in Brampton, Ontario. Her parents are Italian. She has three siblings, Dario, Danica, and Dante. Cara attended Cardinal Ambrozic Catholic Secondary School in Brampton. Prior to music, she did theater and wrote poetry.

Cara’s musical journey dates back to her early teens. She started out posting acoustic song covers on YouTube. She also learned to play the guitar at a young age. Cara’s music influences include artists like Lauryn Hill, Pink, and Amy Winehouse. Her style has been compared to the likes of Rihanna, Norah Jones and Lorde.

Cara signed to EP Entertainment and Def Jam Recordings in 2015. Her debut single “Here” was released in April 2015. The song drew attention from outlets like Spin, Cosmopolitan, Complex, and Billboard magazine. It was ranked #21 on Rolling Stone’s 50 best songs of 2015. The track also landed her a spot on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. She won the 2015 Streamy Award for best original song.

Cara’s 5-track EP, Four Pink Walls, was released in August 2015. Her debut studio album, Know-It-All, followed three months later in November. The album peaked at #9 on the U.S. Billboard 200 and at #8 on the Canadian Albums chart. It eventually rose to Platinum certification with over 1 million units sold. Cara nabbed the 2016 Juno Award for Breakthrough Artist of the Year. She was the musical guest on NBC’s Saturday Night Live on February 4, 2017.
